Course Description
I am an Assistant Professor of Psychology starting at Cal Poly in fall 2006. I am looking for students who share my research interests and want to gain research experience by working in my research lab, the Social Perceptions and Psychophysiology Lab. My research interests are primarily in social cognition, attitudes, and stigma. In my research program I examine stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination with an emphasis on evaluations of counterstereotypic individuals. My dissertation research tested an integrated theoretical model examining evaluations of job applicants who violate race and/or gender stereotypes, using both implicit and explicit measures. I plan to expand my research to examine the health effects of prejudice and discrimination on stigmatized groups, with an emphasis on counterstereotypic individuals. I also conduct research on the content and structure of gender and race subtypes/subgroups.
